While equal length does has its advantages, I believe having the pipes shorter is better on a turbo application, since it allows much less time for the gas to cool. hotter gasses = faster spooling turboThe problem with the stock manifolds is the back ports lead RIGHT into a cast iron wall due to the way they cast the pipes to allow better access to the mounting bolt holes. A convience over performance compromise none too many enthusiasts are pleased with - ash's design lets nice extremely hot exhaust go directly into the turbo in the rear cylinders. My disclaimer: I am not a turbo expert and I could be wrong on the above, but from everything I have read, I like the design of those pipes more than that of an equal length design(i just hope they don't crack too quickly for his sake).
